International Labs

Moving from Trauma-Inducing to Trauma-Informed to Trauma-Integrating Cultures

The International Labs are online groups that meet over several months with the support of Pocket Project facilitators to explore the historical background, architecture and specific expression of ancestral and collective fields of trauma. They are held within a meta-learning framework of research and supervision.

The Labs deepen the foundation of the work of the Pocket Project, expanding our understanding, and broadening our awareness and digestion of the collective trauma aftereffects within individuals and societies. In the Labs, we begin by forming coherence and resourcing the group, before we turn our attention towards the specific area of trauma that we are focussing on.

While our ultimate goal is to release, integrate and heal the trauma that is stored both within individuals and within groups of people who share a similar trauma pattern in their collective unconscious, in our lab journeys, instead, we might begin to digest only small chunks of the energy. Each process is shaped by the specificity of the group and the content being explored. Each journey has its own quality and rhythm, which we need to attune and adapt to, thus shaping a unique learning experience.

As we continue this work together, we create a more open, creative global culture that has the potential for a future that’s sustainable.

six core stages of the Collective Trauma Integration Process

These serve as a loose outline or map for the journey of the International Labs:

Synchronising & Resourcing

Synchronizing body, emotions, mind and spirit and forming relational coherence as a group.

Meeting the Landscape

(of collective Trauma) - Becoming aware of denial and/or touching repression of the trauma.

Becoming a Conduit

Individual & collective conditioning is voiced, expressed and witnessed.

Listening to the Field

Tracking the specificity and listening to the precise quality of individual and collective voices that arise during the process.

Integrating & Restoring

Returning to synchronizing body, emotions, mind and spirit to begin integration.

Transformation & Meta-learning

Transpersonal witnessing, reflection and integration of the process and impulses for transformative action.

The First International Lab Cycle 2020-21

The International Labs completed their first cycle from November 2020 to July 2021. There were 23 Labs, each covering a distinct area of collective trauma, and each with 20 – 65 participants.

The Lab cycle was supervised by Thomas Huebl and senior students, and led by Pocket Project facilitators. The process was accompanied by an internal evaluation and regular surveys to monitor the experience and process of participants.

We are currently in a period of reflection, digestion and meta-learning.

We anticipate providing more preparatory spaces for practice for participants, namely our Practice Groups and Triad Platform. We also aim to continue the learning and integration process for our Pocket Project Facilitators throughout 2022 so that we can continue to refine and uplift the precision and beauty of the work of the Labs.

A second round of International Labs is likely to open in September 2022.
