How do we deal with extreme violence without using force in return? What is the most effective thing to do? How do we deal with the bully without becoming a thug in return? For many of us these questions run deep in our hearts, especially at these times, when injustice, aggression and recurrent cycles of violence may drive us to desperation. Scilla Elworthy has been moved by the power of her broken heart to explore the most effective responses to violence for over 50 years.. There are no easy answers, but in this call, you may well find pointers to support you in your next steps.

Dr Scilla Elworthy is a three times Nobel Peace Prize nominee for her work with Oxford Research Group to develop effective dialogue between nuclear weapons policy-makers worldwide and their critics.

Scilla founded Peace Direct in 2002 to fund‚ promote and learn from local peace-builders in conflict areas‚ was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize in 2003‚ the Luxembourg Peace Prize in 2020, the Goi Peace Award in 2023, and advised Peter Gabriel‚ Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Sir Richard Branson in setting up ‘The Elders’. Her TED talk on nonviolence has been viewed by over 1‚500‚000 people on TED Global and YouTube.

Scilla now leads The Business Plan for Peace to help prevent violent conflict and build sustainable peace throughout the world‚ because it is possible; based on her latest books The Business Plan for Peace: Building a World Without War (2017) and The Mighty Heart: how to transform conflict (2020)‚ now an on-line course.
