A Healing Impulse for Young Adults

A healing impulse for Young Adults

The War in Ukraine has awakened hidden trauma layers and is adding new trauma, leading to increased stress, anxiety and suffering. According to sociological studies, more than 90% of Ukrainians now have at least one of the symptoms of an anxiety disorder, and 57% are at risk of developing mental disorders. This risk is especially high amongst the 18 – 30y age group, since most of those on the frontlines, but also young partners, mothers and widows are strongly affected.

Young men and women returning from the frontlines or living through repeated bombardments may carry lasting psychological and physical scars. Families and friends need to pull together to support each other through these hard times. Young Ukrainians desperately need more tools and support to deal with the ongoing nature of the war and the many ways in which their hopes for the future are being impacted. New and practical approaches to resilience are needed.

The Pocket Project in partnership with Inner Foundation is offering a multi-sector, interdisciplinary approach, spreading both acute psychosocial support and trauma-informed approaches to young adults in Ukraine.

We aim to prevent a continuing spiral that might take generations to heal by bringing psychosocial support to the situation now. Our Ukrainian (and international) teams of therapists, supervisors and trainers offer 1:1 and group sessions with the goal of resourcing individuals and cultivating social stability. We also offer supervision calls and training for therapists and health workers. Through trauma-informed resiliency training, we can enhance young adult’s capacity for post-traumatic growth.

Please help to expand Trauma Relief Project in Ukraine

This project is aiming to respond directly to current needs of young Ukrainians in an ever-changing situation. If you are a Ukrainian of 18–30 years old, please help us make our offerings relevant for you by filling the Needs Assessment. It will take ~3 minutes.

Embodiment is the foundation for healing. Without embodiment, we have no instrument to receive the world and to ground the energy that has lifted out in anxiety, fear and trauma. Our body is the instrument that allows the energy to return and become fertile soil for the future.

Every time trauma is healed, we restore a part of our past and make possible a brighter future for ourselves and succeeding generations. We transform separation, othering, and scarcity into relation, interdependence, and abundance.

How to Help Ukraine:

Would you like to make a donation to support this initiative? The Pocket Project, a non-profit organization, relies on financial contributions to realize Social Impact Projects such as this vital project in Ukraine. We fundraise resources that allow us to contribute to the healing of collective trauma and to reduce its disruptive effects on our global culture. Every donor is an active participant in the realisation of these aims. Your donation will be directly supporting the Ukrainian people who are working with us. We witness this transformation through the eyes of our participants and expert partners, including Oksana, a valued member of our team. This is what she has to say:

What makes us different from other organisations is that at Pocket Project, we put the money to work without unnecessary bureaucratic costs. We are available to people promptly when there is an acute and urgent need.

Mykyta Mikhalko, Private Psychologist, Ukraine
It was an amazing experience to become a part of a big international community in times of war and uncertainty. The knowledge I got from the course was a full integration of my previous psychotherapeutic background. Thank you all hosts and funders for the possibility to participate.
Viktoria L., Psychologist, Ukraine
I would like to thank everyone for this wonderful project… I have found more answers and felt that I have a higher level of energy and recovery. It helped me to find new experiences, raise awareness and gain new tools for healing on all levels… I integrated new tools and knowledge into my experience and use them in my work. I am grateful to the presenters, translator and project organisers for their high level and openness. Now I am helping refugees using the tools from the training. I just want to say: you are all wonderful! Thank you!
Maya Plusheva, Psychotherapist, Ukraine
I was amazed at how easily and accessible the facilitator gave complex and difficult meanings during the course and how essential it was to be a part of such a coherent group atmosphere during these challenging months.
Olexandra, Ukraine
I am so grateful that I decided to sign up for a 1:1 session. My life has changed beyond recognition. Now, I am again interested in living and getting to know myself, asking myself "Is this what I want? Are these my values or are they imposed by others?" I realise that I was lost in trying to rescue others, which exhausted me. I wish more people find you so that more people can get to know their true self even in a situation of war.

Trauma Relief Project - Ukraine

We are creating a global healing impulse that focuses our efforts where the need is the most acute. Since 2022, we have directed the efforts of our volunteers to conduct group and individual meetings in English, German, Ukrainian with more than 17,600 participants registered for them. We focused our efforts on supporting Ukrainians and those who support Ukrainian refugees.

On February 24, 2022, Ukrainians woke up to the sound of bombs and rockets. This remains a reality to this day. There is an urgent need for spaces of safety in which we can collectively bear witness to our shared experience.
