The war in Ukraine is stirring many deep, unhealed wounds of war, both ancestral and cultural, for people outside of Ukraine. Old trauma can leave us with feelings of stress, a separateness from others, and can make it hard to stay present to the world around us, and also what is happening in Ukraine. In this Global Social Witnessing call, we created a shared space to gently attune to these layered responses—personal, familial, and collective. Through embodied presence, we explored how inherited trauma surfaces in moments of global crisis and how we might meet it with compassion, without turning away. Together, we practiced being with what was hard to hold—listening not just with our minds, but with our bodies and hearts.
